2encounterThe National Cursillo Encounter will be held at Chapman University in Orange, California, from Thursday, July 31, to Sunday, August 3, but you knew that, right? What you may not know is that it will be one exciting spirit-filled weekend of song, prayer, great talks, fun and fellowship that will kick-start your love for the Lord and propel you forward in your faith life as a Cursillista. Last summer, the Encounter was held in New York with an attendance of almost 700 people, up nearly 300 from the previous year. This summer, because of the location, the attendance is expected to completely fill the 950-seat maximum!

Why should you go to the National Encounter weekend? I read some of the talks from last summer’s Encounter. I was so inspired by these talks, which centered around the Year of Faith to encourage the building up of our Catholic faith. This year’s theme is appropriately the New Evangelization; since evangelization is the essential apostolate of the Cursillo movement.

encounterThe cost for the weekend is $335 if you register before May 31, and includes a room and all meals from dinner on Thursday to breakfast on Sunday. That is a good buy in Orange County! If a large group of us want to go, we could look into hiring a bus for the transportation. How great would it be to have a large group of Sacramento Cursillistas together for this event?! Talk to your spouse; talk to your Group Reunion (4th day). Let’s make this National Encounter in Orange our Sacramento Ultreya!

Here is what one woman said about her experience last summer: “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Praise Jesus! I am on fire! It was a truly amazing and blessed experience to serve Jesus and the Movement in such a special way this past weekend; I could not ask God for more. I pray & hope to be able to transmit my excitement and spiritual energy to my diocese. GOD BLESS YOU ALL! DE COLORES!” (Marisela (Rodriguez) Garcia – Diocese of Rockford, IL)
